If you experience chest pain, a speeding heart, or other heart problems, your doctor may order an ECG. There is no need for you to do anything particular to prepare for an ECG. Before the ECG, you may have your chest, arm, or leg hair shaved or your skin cleaned so that the electrodes adhere well to your body. If you are wearing a bra, you may be requested to remove it. Leads are hooked to electrodes during an ECG using sticky dots placed on your arms, legs, and chest. The leads are connected to a machine, which reads the data.
