An X-ray that uses digital sensors rather than photographic film, as in a standard X-ray, is referred to as a digital X-ray or digital radiography. The captured image is quickly converted to digital data and is available for analysis in a matter of seconds. Although the technology for digital X-rays is very different from that of traditional X-rays, the method is very similar. Digital sensors are utilized to capture the image rather than photographic film as bursts of radiation continue to move through the body and generate an image based on how much radiation passes through the various organs. A detecting layer is placed on top of an active matrix array of thin film transistors and photodiodes in digital X-ray sensors, which are commonly active matrix flat panels.
